The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige has passed a message to the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) not to jeopardize the chances of an Igbo man becoming the next President of Nigeria come 2023 with violence.
Ngige who made the call during a press briefing with Igbo Grassroots Politicians (IGP) in Abuja today, maintained that the level of violence being perpetrated in the Eastern region can deny ndi Igbo the chances of producing the next President of the Nation.
However, he pleaded with the Indigenous people of Biafra not to allow this opportunity sneak out from Igbo land, while urging them to drop agitation and join the present government of President Muhammadu Buhari to move the nation forward as such would endear the Northern part of Nigeria to support the 2023 Igbo Presidency.
According to him, “I want to call on all Igbo agitators, most especially IPOB to drop the war of secession as that is not the way out.
“2023 is at hand and if we don’t unite ourselves now, it will be difficult for an Igbo man to become the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Let’s support Mr President so that the North can support us in 2023.
“Ndi Igbo are not known for agitation and war. We are peace loving people, that is why we must drop all forms of agitation now so that it won’t affect us in 2023. I see an Igbo man becoming the next President of this country if only IPOB can drop this war of secession. Nigeria is ours to build and in Nigeria lies our hope and future.” he said.
However, it could be gathered that Dr Ngige made similar call earlier September last year, where he called on the leadership of IPOB to drop all forms of agitation for the best interest of ndi Igbo come 2023. But from all indication, it seems IPOB did not listen to him as the agitation is taking a new dimension day by day.
