We Will Come And Check If Covid-19 Truly Exists In Nigeria – US Govt

We Will Come And Check If Covid-19 Truly Exists In Nigeria, The United State Government has stated that it will be conducting a survey that will cost a total of $2.1million to determine the extent of COVID-19 transmission in three selected states of Gombe, Enugu, and Nasarawa states in Nigeria.

The US government in a statement over the weekend, said the survey will increase the current understanding of COVID-19 transmission and burden in these three states and inform COVID-19 response efforts of the Government of Nigeria and its partners.

According to the statement which was published on the twitter handle of the U.S Mission Nigeria, @USinNigeria, the survey will be conducted through the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with the University of Maryland, Baltimore which is one of its implementing partners in Nigeria, to provide technical assistance and oversee field implementation of the survey.

The survey which will be conducted between September and November with preliminary results expected to be released by December 2020, is part of the U.S. government’s bilateral efforts to improve the health and well-being of the Nigerian people.

The statement reads: “The survey will estimate the proportion of the population in these states who have ever been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19 disease.

“This will be accomplished by measuring the presence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in the blood of volunteers. The survey will also estimate the proportion of people who have the disease but are not showing any symptoms, determine risk factors for infection, and measure the intra-household transmission of COVID-19.

“The survey will also estimate the prevalence of malaria and its potential relationship to SARS-CoV-2 infection. All members of selected households will be offered the opportunity to participate in the survey.

“If they agree, participants will answer a brief questionnaire, have their blood drawn and tested for the presence of COVID-19 antibodies, and receive a nasal swab and oropharyngeal swab to test for acute COVID-19. They will also have a rapid malaria test and receive malaria treatment if the test is positive.”

The First Lady of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki has described those making mockery of her inability to have her biological children yet with her husband as people who lack understanding, saying such people need to be pitied.

“I hear some people saying all sorts of things about us but I know nobody in his right senses would make jest of people who do not have their own children, but my advice for those in my shoes is to ignore them and focus on God”.

“On the other hand, I will advise proper check-up and do other things as advised by medical experts, do all medical investigations, but you know at times everything is right with you and it’s not just coming but that is when u actually need to hope on God”.

“You could try many other ways like IVS etc, but at times they don’t work, but you must be calm, relax and leave everything to God. For me, I’m very busy here in Edo, especially with the husband being the Governor, we have more than enough children here in Edo to care about and I really pity those mocking us. They don’t understand the issues of life”.

Community Policing: Group demands N13.3billion disbursed through Police Trust Fund

COMPPART Foundation for Justice and Peace Building has written to President Muhammadu Buhari demanding the N13.3billiin earmarked for the community policing project be disbursed through the Police Trust Fund for management and not the Nigeria Police Force.

In the letter endorsed by its Executive Director, Saviour Akpan, the group argued that”it is not the duty of the police anywhere in the world to implement community policing rather it is the community with the police and other security agencies as partners”.

According to COMPPART, the scale of training requirement in community policing is such that it is simply not feasible to rely on the existing training institutions of the Nigeria, because,” it will involve training and redeployment of social agents within the cultural sensibilities of the different states and communities in Nigeria”.

The group is of the opinion that such will be properly managed by Police Trust Fund which h is a creation of an Act of Parliament with accountability as it’s core mandate.

It argued further” our experience over the years shows that if the more ey is given to the Nigeria Police to manage, we will not be able to achieve the import of community policing in Nigeria, stressing that such fund may likely be mismanaged.

However, the group is grateful that the president has chosen to move the community policing project forward it’s formal launch in April 2004.

The group said that the project has moved from what it describes as”political sloganeering” to a more realistic stage which has witnessed the release of take-off funds.

Insecurity: Buhari has failed us, Yoruba must carry gun – Gani Adams

The Aare Ona Kakanfo-in-Council led by Iba Gani Adams has again expressed concern over the rising insecurity in Nigeria where he point out that President Buhari Administration has failed woefully.

The body declared that President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to guarantee the safety of lives and property of the masses.

In a communiqué after its meeting, the body told South-West Governors to direct Yorubas to obtain license to bear firearms.

Signed by Babajide Tanimowo, Atoloye Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, the council said it received credible intelligence which indicates “the infiltration of terrorists and killer Fulani herdsmen in the region.”

It cited the revelation that suspected ISIS operatives have positioned themselves in Niger State via Ibarubaland and within the Oke-ogun corridor of Oyo State.

“The intel also revealed that about 500 power bikes and assorted armour belonging to the terrorists have been physically sighted along the abandoned Lusada route moving towards Sokoto, from Igbo-ora in Oyo State.

“The Council, therefore, enjoin all Southwest governors, as well as the Governors of Kwara and Kogi States, to emulate the Governor of Benue State, Mr Samuel Ortom, by directing their citizens to apply for gun license for self-defense against the marauding terrorists and killer herdsmen.”

The statement advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) government to take urgent steps to tighten Nigeria’s entry points, especially the porous borders with West African neighbours.

It called for an immediate halt to all ethnic and genocidal killings in Nigeria, insisting that no nation prospers on the blood of the innocent.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, rise to the occasion and put a stop to the senseless killings in Southern Kaduna, Benue, Plateau and Taraba States, among others. Stop this senseless bloodletting now.

“The clamor by the Yoruba for effective and adequate security architecture for the region goes beyond Amotekun or any form of self-help. It is all about the preservation of our heritage as a race, our way of life, our patrimony, our culture and traditions.

Insecurity: Buhari has failed us, Yoruba must carry gun - Gani Adams

“Since 1991, the Yoruba have been clamouring for resource control or restructuring as a basis for equitable co-existence within the Nigerian nation. The clarion calls have gone largely unheeded. Now, our people are sick and tired of the deafening silence they have been receiving over time.”

The council said for peace to reign, the Buhari administration should embark on an equitable restructuring of federating units before October 1, 2020, based on the recommendations of the Yoruba Submit Group at its meeting held in July.

It condemned alleged attempts by the government to “smuggle the rejected RUGA policy with its toxic provision to annex the ancestral lands of indigenous people with the active connivance of the 9th National Assembly.”

The communique also condemned “the outrageous intention” of the government to mortgage the ports in Lagos to China for a needless credit facility.

Reiterating that the unity of Yorubas within and in the diaspora is non-negotiable, the council urged the region’s leaders and stakeholders to bury personal ambitions and close ranks.

Presidency’s Move To Control Amotekun Is Arrant Nonsense – Adebanjo

Elder statesman, Chief Ayo Adebanjo on Tuesday attacked the presidency for saying that the Inspector General of Police would determine the structure of Southwest regional security outfit, Amotekun.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu had said during a programme on Channels TV that the IGP would determine the structure of Amotekun.

Shehu was speaking on the approval of N13bn by the Federal Government for community policing across the 36 states of the federation.

He said, “Whatever name they go by, Amotekun or whatever, will be streamlined and they will be run in accordance with the structure as defined by the Inspector-General of Police. They will be localised, they will be owned by local communities, they will be managed by them.”

The President’s spokesman further stated that the community policing structure would be the same across the 36 states and whatever does not conform with the national structure would not be “in the scheme of things”.

But Adebanjo, in an interview rejected the presidency’s assertion, saying that they are ‘arrant nonsense.

According to him, “What Shehu said is arrant nonsense! Is he the Attorney General (of the federation)? He is just talking trash. Please quote me.

“They are controlling the police from the centre, it is not working, now they want to control Amotekun again from the same position? Do you have an IG of police in America? Even in Britain, it is not centralized. What you have is metropolitan police.”

Adebanjo wondered: “How can you send someone from Jigawa State to control the police in Ibadan? What does he know? You say the Governors are the chief security officers of their states, yet they control nothing, what kind of arrangement is that?”

He said Shehu might not understand as the issue was beyond him.

He added: “I don’t want to engage him because he may not understand. The issue is beyond him. Amotekun is the case of localizing security, yet they want to control it from the Centre like the police, how?”

Jacob in the Bible is the number one Yahoo boy of all time – Nigeria Prophet

A Nigerian prophet, Abiodun has claimed that Jacob in the Bible was the number one Yahoo boy and 419 kingpin in history.

“NDDC Awards N6bn Fingerlings Contracts Without Fish Ponds” – Akpabio

Akpabio said that the “NDDC Awards N6bn Fingerlings Contracts Without Fish Ponds”

“The outcome of forensic audit will shock Nigerians and if you are from Niger Delta region, you must be forced to ask certain questions, I was in this office when a young man walked in and asked me, Sir, what do I do?

“I was given a contract to supply fingerlings for N6billion and I have N3billion still in my account. I asked by whom, he said NDDC, I said when? And he said a few years ago but with this probe coming I don’t know what to do.My health is not good and I don’t want stress. Sir, can I return N3billion out of the N6billion? I said didn’t you supply, he said they didn’t give him where to supply to.

“Fingerlings is something that you supply to fish ponds, Am I right? Now N6billion worth of fingerlings of fish ponds in Niger Delta and yet they didn’t have the fish pond but they wrote there are across 27 senatorial district.I think they like giving out contracts without doing the job. I keep telling people I am not just waking up. As a governor, I know there was something wrong with NDDC but I couldn’t pinpoint it, I could see the symptoms.

“So when I became a Minister of Niger Delta that’s when I found that the symptoms of failure that I used to see here all about corruption. It was like an ATM for people to make money to go and contest elections.Whether I am here or not I believe we should change the story and the story can only change when we tell the truth. But a lot of people are not ready to tell the truth.

“But these details were never worked to include the committees and the management of NDDC the details were rather handled by two Chairmen, Chairman of the house committee and chairman of the Senate Committee. That’s was what I was trying to explain to them but I wasn’t given the opportunity to. All I was trying to explain to them is that don’t hand over the fate of Niger Delta to only two people. They never allow others to have input.

“Even the governors of the region never had inputted in the development of the NDDC. I was a governor; I had to take over the construction of Ibono road with four bridges.

“I took it over from NDDC that had been on that road for 11 years with a lot of variations. So I took over the road gave it to CCC construction company, approach Mobil, Mobil came in, the road was going to cost about 34 billion. They made the contribution of about 8 billion and the government sponsored the rest and now we have the road……..”
